DLA Piper - Labor and Employment practice

Practice/Organization Description

The Employment practice group represents management in a broad spectrum of labor, employment, and civil rights law matters. Our nationwide presence permits us to represent many multi-national companies, some of them our clients for more than 20 years. It is this experience representing clients in dealings and disputes with employees, unions, and governmental entities that has instilled in our employment lawyers a deep understanding of employers’ needs, means, and goals in dealing with employees and employer-related questions. As a result, we have a pragmatic, cost-conscious, result-oriented approach to the problems that employers face on a day-to-day basis. Our lawyers strongly believe that one of their main functions is to eliminate problems before they arise. Up-front preventive maintenance is relatively inexpensive and often avoids future expensive litigation.

Our employment law services include counseling on general personnel matters and issues arising from traditional labor-management relations, equal employment opportunity claims, immigration, and occupational safety and health claims. The group is also particularly experienced at both federal and state court litigation of claims arising out of the employment relationship, and representation regarding proposed legislation and regulations affecting labor and employee relations.

Counseling on ERISA and executive compensation matters is carried on in a separate practice group that works closely with our group where appropriate to a client’s needs. Together, the Employment practice group and the Employee Benefits practice group offer clients the extensive experience of over 100 lawyers who focus on all of the diverse and complex issues surrounding the employment relationship.
