Practice/Organization Description

I am a traumatic injury trial lawyer based in White Plains, New York with a dynamic practice in all of the courts in the New York City metropolitan area as well as Westchester County and the entire Hudson Valley region.

My firm, which I founded, practices plaintiff’s personal injury law exclusively. Our main areas of concentration are automobile and construction worker accidents and we generally accept only cases that involve serious traumatic injuries such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), bone fractures, knee and shoulder ligament and rotator cuff tears that require surgery and the like. Additionally, we prosecute a significant number of wrongful death cases.

My background is unique in that I started my career at the United States District Court in Manhattan as law clerk to a federal judge, after which I joined a large New York City corporate law firm and then became a local court judge myself for six years. I know of no other plaintiff’s personal injury lawyer in New York with this background.

Additionally, I trained and served for six years as an emergency medical technician (EMT). It made for quite a few interesting comments when the local judge alighted from an ambulance serving as an EMT while my “day job” was traumatic injury trial law.

As a result of my service as an EMT, I have been consulted by several ambulance corps and asked to lecture on medico-legal issues affecting them such as how to avoid negligence lawsuits. I teach on a volunteer basis.

Additionally, my medical background has resulted in my publishing The Hochfelder Report, New York Injury Cases Blog and Brain Injury Lawyer FAQ. In each, I explain (both for the public and lawyers) how and why traumatic injury cases are valued, especially regarding specific injuries and in particular traumatic brain injuries. Each injury is discussed in medical terms with anatomical and surgical illustrations and medical definitions.
