Captain Lyndsey Olson currently serves as the full-time (AGR) Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 34th Infantry Division Headquarters of the Minnesota Army National Guard, providing in-house legal counsel to commanders and staff on a wide range of military/government legal issues. Captain Olson also manages the Legal Assistance Office for the Minnesota Army National Guard and continuously strives to broaden avenues for legal assistance to servicemembers through education of the civilian bar and community partnership.
Captain Olson recently completed her LLM at the University of Virginia (US Army JAG School), with a specialty in Government Contract and Fiscal Law. She deployed to Iraq as an International Law Officer and Trial Counsel for Task Force 34 (Combat Aviation Brigade) from 2008-2009. She has been assigned to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, 34th Infantry Division since 2002. Captain Olson has been a frequent instructor for the Minnesota State Bar Association on the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and military family law. Additionally, Captain Olson has authored several articles on the SCRA, fiscal law, standard operating procedures and guides on subjects including, informal military investigations, immigration, military justice, and legal requirements for soldier readiness. Her most recent article was published by the Army Lawyer in April 2010. Her next article, on AGR retirement, is scheduled for publication in the ABA’s Roll Call Newsletter and the ABA's Military Divorce Handbook 2nd Ed., by Mark Sullivan in 2011, followed by a practitioner's guide to assisting servicemembers published by Matthew Bender 2011.
