Practice/Organization Description

Roberta Oster Sachs is Associate Dean for External Relations at the University of Richmond School of Law, where she is responsible for media relations, communications, the website, public affairs, and marketing. She also works with faculty, students and the community to promote pro bono initiatives and civic engagement.

An accomplished Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist, Oster Sachs has two decades of experience as a producer at the New York network studios of “Dateline, NBC,” ABC, and CBS News. She won awards for her stories on social justice, public policy, human rights, and education, including reporting from the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan on the impact of the Taliban on Afghan women, the September 11th terrorist attacks, presidential elections, the famine in Ethiopia and the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.

Oster Sachs joined academia in 2003, teaching documentary film production and media literacy at Tufts University, where she also co-founded and directed the Media and Public Service Program. She has taught as an adjunct professor at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, as a Visiting Professor at Princeton University and at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond.

Oster Sachs has a MPA from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a BS from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. She was awarded the John S. Knight Fellowship for Professional Journalists at Stanford University, where she studied in the law and business schools.
