Carter Law Group represents tax-exempt and nonprofit companies with respect to their general business, tax, and regulatory needs. We also represent donors contemplating significant gifts and socially responsible companies considering corporate giving strategies.
Our practice touches on all aspects of general business law with a particular emphasis on the federal tax laws and state statutes that are exclusive to nonprofits. Counter intuitively, tax-exempt organizations generally have more, rather than fewer, I.R.S. compliance issues because the I.R.S. must ensure that the valuable tax-exemptions, eligibility for deductible contributions, tax-exempt bond funding and other benefits are not exploited.
Our exclusive focus allows us to stay on top of the evolving legal and regulatory climate for nonprofits. It allows us to provide advice and counsel based on deep experience and extensive contacts within the philanthropic sector.
Our goal is to leverage that experience to help our clients avoid costly legal mistakes while maximizing their community impact.
