An attorney with thirty years of professional experience in various areas of legal practice, J.P. Bartolomé joined the law firm Escritório Jurídico Elísio de Souza, as partner, in 1997. He is responsible for the areas of O&G servive and supply companies, intellectual property law – with focus on IT industry – and foreign investment in Brazil. Bartolomé's professional antecedents include working as Senior Manager Legal Services of a large audit firm, regional (Southern South America) legal counsel for an American trade association and litigation attorney for a major US bank Brazilian subsidiary.
Bartolomé has substantial experience in legal advise for foreign investors in Brazil (e.g., incorporation of subsidiaries and joint ventures, licensing, franchising, etc.) and IT/IP law.
He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB). He lectured on intellectual property and foreign investment matters, in Brazil (including the Judicial College of the State of Rio de Janeiro) and abroad, and has papers published on the subject.
J. P.Bartolomé was born in Lansdale, PA, USA, having being raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been living in Rio de Janeiro since January 1974 and is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
He is married to Liz and has two daughters. Hobbies are windsurfing and sailing.
