Jonathan Cannon is an associate attorney at BuckleySandler LLP. He advises financial institutions, financial services companies, mortgage companies, mortgage servicers, banks, securities broker-dealers, and others on federal and state regulations, including consumer credit laws and regulations such as RESPA, TILA, FCRA, FDCPA, GLBA, SCRA, SAFE Act, ECOA, and HMDA. Mr. Cannon also counsels clients on UDAP/UDAAP compliance, multi-state licensing issues, state-law compliance programs, and alternative mortgage transactions.
He has collaborated with in-house attorneys and business representatives to identify regulatory gaps and develop regulatory compliance programs, training plans, and policies and procedures to prepare for Consumer Financial Protection Bureau examinations and investigations. He has represented and advised lenders and servicers in CFPB, federal regulatory, and state regulatory examinations and enforcement actions. Additionally, he has managed attorneys in the conduct of comprehensive surveys of state and federal laws and regulations (especially in light of legal changes brought by the Dodd-Frank Act) and performed due diligence investigations of financial services companies on behalf of acquiring entities. He also advises clients on fair lending issues, conducts fair lending analyses, and develops fair lending compliance programs.
