Jon Hyman applies his nearly 15 years of experience to provide proactive and cost-effective solutions to solve employers' workforce problems.
He primarily concentrates his practice in the representation of companies in employment disputes, including litigation with terminated employees and disputes over trade secrets and non-competition agreements. His representation extends beyond the courtroom, into various state and federal administrative agencies. He supplements his employment practice with complex commercial matters, such as fiduciary and shareholder litigation and alcohol franchise disputes.
Complementing his litigation practice, Jon also advises individuals and companies on a wide-range of employment, human relations, and labor-relations issues. Jon serves an "outside in-house counsel" role for businesses that lack an in-house labor & employment attorney. In this role, Jon drafts policies and handbooks, audits HR and wage and hour practices and procedures, and advises companies on day-to-day HR issues such as employee discipline, terminations, workplace investigations, and the drafting and implementation of social media policies. This role also frequently requires Jon's service as an author and speaker on myriad employment-related issues.
Jon is the author of the nationally recognized Ohio Employer's Law Blog (www.ohioemployerlawblog.com),which the ABA has commended as one of the top five labor and employment blogs in the country for 2010, and one of the top 100 legal blogs overall. You can also find him commenting on current labor and employment law issues on Twitter (@jonhyman), on his Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ohio.employer.law.blog), and on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/in/jonathanhyman). Using the social media experience he gained as an early-adopter, Jon is the author of the upcoming book, Social Media for HR: Practical and Legal Guidance, which Thompson Publishing will publish in 2011. It is believed to be the first book of its kind.
Jon serves as a frequent source for the local and national media on employment law issues, having been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, National Law Journal, Business Insurance Magazine, Crain's Cleveland Business, Inside Counsel, and Lawyer's USA. Jon also writes as a contributing editor to Business Management Daily and is the editor of its HR Specialist Ohio Employment Law Newsletter. Jon also lends his expertise as a speaker on myriad employment law topics, most recently presenting a half-day seminar on social media and employment law, and other presentations on the ADA, the FMLA, workplace technology, and harassment. Jon also serves on the Employment Law Committee of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, offering his expertise to the drafting of legislation crucial to Ohio's businesses.
