Maria received her law degree in May of 1998 from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis, working full time and attending classes in the evenings. Prior to law school, she worked as a civilian contracting officer for the US Navy for 12 years and the US Army for 2 years. In the latter part of her work with the Navy, she bought sonobuoys, the surveillance devices made famous in Tom Clancy’s “Hunt for Red October”. She received her undergraduate degree in Agricultural Communications from Purdue University in 1983, which, as she tells it, means she talks to pigs.
Her office is on the eastside of Indianapolis. As a general practice attorney she does a large amount of family law, including prenuptial agreements, annulments, divorces, custody and child support cases, adoptions, adult or minor guardianships, and paternity cases, as well as estate planning, probate, contracts, contract disputes, general litigation and small business advice. Her philosophy is to tell the client her opinion and recommendation, not just what the client wants to hear.
She is a member of Footlite Musicals, Player’s Club and the Indianapolis Bar Players (a group of singing lawyers). Maria served on the board of the Irvington Community Council from 1983 until 1994, and again from 1998 to 2003, twice as its president, and currently serves as its general counsel. She has volunteered at the Marion County Children’s Guardian Home and has been a volunteer Guardian Ad Litum with Kids Voice since October of 2006. She served two terms as president of the Hancock County Bar Association and is currently the county delegate to the Indiana State Bar Association House of Delegates. She and her husband of 26 years live on a five acre farm, in a 100 year old farm house. The current farm menagerie consists of four dogs, one cat, four horses, two sons and 11 less raccoons. . . .
