Garry J. Wise was born in Toronto, and graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1984. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1986, and practices law in Toronto with Wise Law Office, a Toronto employment law, family law and litigation firm.
He has completed advanced training in Family Law Mediation and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
Garry was a recent speaker at the Law Society of Upper Canada's Solo and Small Firms Conference at Toronto, and has contributed to Bar-Ex News, CCH Labour and Law Newsletter, the Canadian Bar Association’s Solo and Small Firm Addendum E-newsletter, Divorce Magazine, and various other publications in print and online.
He is principal contributor to Wise Law Blog, an online publication highlighting legal developments in Canada and the United States and reporting on key decisions of Canadian courts, with focus on Ontario Family Law, Ontario Employment Law and other areas of interest. Wise Law Blog received a 2007 Canadian Law Blog Award (CLawBie) for Best Practitioner Support blog and was a 2008 nominee for a Canadian Blog Award in the Best Professional/Career Blog Category
Garry has appeared as an occasional legal commentator on radio and television and has recently been featured in the National Post, Toronto Star and Lawyer's Weekly newspapers.
Garry is a prior Chairman, Legal Affairs and Advocacy Committee, Big Sisters Association of Ontario, where he also served as a member of the Executive Committee for two years. He has also previously served upon various Board and committee positions in the Toronto Jewish Community.
