$250 Million "Bridge NY" Fund Seeks to Aid Municipalities in Bridge Repair

$250 million is now available to assist local governments across New York in the repair or replacement of bridges and culverts. Municipalities authorized to receive and administer state and federal transportation funding are eligible to apply for the state grants.

Governor Cuomo announced the funding to be provided through the BRIDGE NY initiative that has already distributed $200 million to rehabilitate more than 125 bridges and culverts in 96 communities.

Awards for the new round of funding will be made through a competitive process and will support all phases of project development, including design, right-of-way acquisition and construction. Evaluations will be based on the structural condition of a bridge or culvert and its resiliency and significance, based upon traffic volumes, detour considerations, the number and types of businesses served and the overall impact on commerce.

Applications are being accepted through April 13, 2018 for culverts, and April 27, 2018 for bridges.
