According to a recent report by WebRecon, court filings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) were all down for the month of August. However, year over year, only FDCPA complaints have decreased, and not by much.

WebRecon reports the overall statistics for consumer litigation in August as follows:

  • 773 FCRA cases were filed, representing a 2.0% decrease from July;
  • 349 FDCPA cases were filed, representing a 3.9% decrease from July;
  • 232 TCPA cases filed, representing a 15.0% decrease from July; and
  • 27,495 complaints filed with the CFPB, representing an 0.8% decrease from July.

Filings are mostly up compared to January 1 to August 31, 2024 (FCRA +27.6%, FDCPA -5.7%, TCPA +52.1%, CFPB +102.8%).
