Bryant Bank Files Notice of Data Breach That Leaked an Unknown Number of SSNs

On April 18, 2023, Bryant Bank filed a notice of data breach with the Montana Attorney General after determining that an unauthorized party was able to access confidential customer information stored on the company’s computer network. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, bank and financial account information, health insurance information and medical information, passport numbers, and driver’s license numbers. What We Know So Far About the Bryant Bank Breach

News of the Bryant Bank data breach is still fresh; however, what we know at this point comes from the company’s filing with the Montana Attorney General. According to this source, on October 27, 2022, Bryant Bank learned that an unauthorized party was able to bypass the company’s data security system and access certain files stored on its network. In response, Bryant Bank disabled all unauthorized access, restored the data, and launched an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity professionals.

The Bryant Bank investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party had gained access to the bank’s IT system between October 26, 2022 and October 27, 2022. It was also determined that some of the files that were accessible to the unauthorized party contained confidential customer information.

Upon discovering that sensitive consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Bryant Bank began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. Bryant Bank completed this process on April 6, 2023. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number, date of birth, bank and financial account information, health insurance information and medical information, passport numbers, and driver’s license numbers.

On April 18, 2023, Bryant Bank sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident.
