Clarification of Expanded Interview Requirement for "Green Cards"

Applications filed before March 6, 2016, will not be subject to interview unless some specific reason requires an interview.

Interviews will be scheduled according to priority date (date in the waiting line for an immigrant visa). In other words, if your priority date is current (no waiting line), you should be interviewed before someone facing a long waiting line.

The government says that it has sufficient staff to keep the process moving without undue delay. We certainly hope this is true, but we are expecting delays nonetheless.

Interviewers may inquire into the facts of the underlying immigrant petition (I-130, I-140, I-360) even if that petition has been approved.

We strongly recommend consulting with your immigration attorney before attending such an interview. Representation at the interview also should be strongly considered.
