1. Listen to my interview on Daily Journal Corp’s latest podcast, “Void for Overlap?,” a podcast about the Connor v. 2. Two items about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). One, a name change. Out—CFPB; In—BCFP. BCFP stands for the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection because apparently that’s the actual name of the agency in the enacting legislation. Two, Kathy Kraninger has been nominated to be Director of the BCFP. Ms. Kraninger is a career government official, having worked for the Department of Homeland Security and for appropriations committees in the House and Senate. She currently works at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Click here. 
3. Massachusetts has been bringing enforcement actions against employers in the Boston-area for alleged violations of the state’s CORI law related to the “ban the box” provision, which prohibits most employers from asking job applicants about a criminal history on an initial employment application. The Attorney General’s (AG) office looked into employers compliance with the state’s “ban the box” law and whether employers were violating the law by asking job applicants on their initial application if they have a criminal record. The AG’s office entered into agreements with Edible Arrangements, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, and L’Occitane as well as sent letters to 17 local businesses warning them to take action to comply with state law.
