On September 30, 2020, the General Tax Administration published on its website the existence of an agreement between the Costa Rica Ministry of Finance and the Department of the Treasury of the United States of America, which aims to support the Costa Rican Tax Authority in strengthening controls and developing complementary actions to improve tax compliance and fight against tax evasion and fraud. This objective is intended to be implemented through an International Technical Assistance Program, provided by the United States Department of the Treasury.

As indicated on the Ministry Finance's official website, this technical assistance will be essential to improve indicators in terms of tax control, tax evasion, and collection, at a difficult time for the country's public finances. The collaboration will allow adopting other actions that implement legal and administrative control measures, strengthen audits, timely identification tax evasion, and fraud.
