The Denver Housing Authority has been working a long time to redevelop Lincoln Park in the La Alma neighborhood. And, the hard work is garnering some attention. With construction on several phases completed and residents bringing life to the buildings and neighborhood, the revitalized Mariposa community is at the center of the La Alma/Lincoln Park neighborhood recognized as one of the American Planning Association’s ten Great Neighborhoods. A recent news story aired by local Channel 9 provides some great coverage about the award and the community elements that distinguish the neighborhood. Building on some existing community assets like the long-standing Buckhorn Exchange, the 10th & Osage RTD light rail stop, and a nearby recreation center and library, the DHA team was able to implement a vision for the comprehensive redevelopment of the Lincoln Park public housing site that is adding its own assets to the mix including a community garden, public art, the Youth on Record youth media studio, Osage Cafe and Arts Street. Mariposa features some of the best about housing and community revitalization efforts and is possible thanks to the dedication of the DHA team as well as that of residents, lenders, tax credit investors, HUD, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, City of Denver, architects and engineering teams, construction crews, and non-profits and other community organizations.
