The Region 6 Office of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) issued an April 24th news release announcing grants available pursuant to the Diesel Emission Reduction Program (“DERA”).

EPA states that it anticipates awarding approximately $40 million to eligible applicants (subject to the availability of funds).

The Region 6 office will accept proposals requesting up to $2.5 million in funding. Arkansas is among those states encompassed by Region 6.

The grants target the modernization of the diesel fleet by retrofitting or replacing vehicles with cleaner, more efficient diesel engines. Eligible applicants are stated to include regional, state, local or tribal agencies, or port authorities with jurisdiction over transportation or air quality. Applicants can include nonprofit organizations if they provide pollution reduction or educational services to diesel fleet owners or have, as their principal purpose, the promotion of transportation or air quality.

EPA states that priority for funding “will be given to projects that engage and benefit local communities and applicants that demonstrate their ability to promote and continue efforts to reduce emissions after the project has ended.”

Applicants have until June 12, 2018, to apply.
