E-Verify Has Resumed Operations

E-Verify, the government’s online system that enables employers to verify employment eligibility for new hires, was temporarily unavailable due to the government shutdown. However, E‑Verify has resumed operations and is back online. Employers participating in E-Verify may now resume utilizing the platform.

Employers who were unable to create E-Verify cases within three business days of the first day of employment for new hires while E-Verify was temporarily unavailable must complete an E-Verify case for those hires no later than October 14, 2025. Employers should enter the hire date from the employee’s Form I‑9 when creating the E‑Verify case. When prompted to provide a reason for the delay, employers should select “Other” and enter “E‑Verify not Available.” Employers must also address any pending Tentative Non-Confirmations and revise the date by which employees are required to contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to initiate resolution of any identified mismatch, if the case was referred prior to the government shutdown.
