Tennessee: Jonathan Skrmetti, a Republican, has been selected by the Tennessee Supreme Court to serve an eight-year term as the 28th Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter. Prior to becoming Governor Bill Lee’s chief legal counsel in December 2021, Skrmetti served as chief deputy attorney general. AG Skrmetti replaces AG Herbert Slatery, who announced in May that he would not seek a second term.
Minnesota: Jim Schultz has prevailed in the Republican AG primary, defeating 2018 GOP AG nominee Doug Wardlow. Schultz will run against incumbent Democratic AG Keith Ellison in the fall general election.
Vermont: Charity Clark, former chief of staff in the AG’s office, won the Democratic nomination for AG, defeating Rory Thibault, Washington County state’s attorney. If successful in the fall against Republican Brooke Paige and Progressive Party candidate Elijah Bergman, Clark would be the first woman elected to the post in the state’s history.
Wisconsin: Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney defeated Adam Jarchow and Karen Mueller in a tight race to win the Republican nomination for state AG. Toney will face incumbent Democratic AG Josh Kaul in the fall. Toney ran on his record as a DA, and received endorsements from numerous law enforcement representatives.
