This handbook provides an overview of some issues that individuals, families, and small businesses may face as a result of the fires that broke out in Northern and Southern California in the fall of 2018. While fires occurred throughout the state, this handbook focuses particularly on Butte, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties because, as of the time of this publication, these were the only counties for which the federal government has issued a Major Disaster Declaration, triggering certain assistance to individuals.
Please note, unless otherwise indicated, this handbook is only current through November 20, 2018. By the time you read this material, the federal, state, and county governments may have enacted additional measures to assist victims of the fire that may affect some of the information we present.
