Recently, the CFPB released its Semi-Annual Report to Congress, covering activities during the tenure of former CFPB Director Chopra from April 1 through September 30, 2024, unless otherwise noted. On complaints, the CFPB reported receiving around 2,611,000 consumer complaints between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024. According to the report, the most frequently complained-about consumer financial product during that period was “credit or consumer reporting,” followed by “debt collection.”

The report further indicated that, as of September 30, 2024, the CFPB had spent approximately $755.1 million on its operations and employed 1,758 staff members at the end of the fiscal year. It also listed the public enforcement actions in which the CFPB participated between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024, presented in chronological order. As previously covered by InfoBytes here and here, the CFPB, under Acting Director Vought, has withdrawn guidance documents issued under former Bureau leadership and terminated several enforcement actions.
