Florida Local Governments Cancel Public Hearings Due to Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

With the ongoing spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and in an effort to limit public gatherings, a number of Florida counties and municipalities have taken the proactive step of canceling or postponing upcoming public hearings and meetings. Below is a list of Florida counties and municipalities that have announced cancellations.

Although this list is not definitive, it will be updated as we learn of cancellations throughout the state.

Please contact any of the authors of this alert, or any member of the Government Law and Consulting Practice, if you have questions or concerns regarding upcoming public hearings or pending applications before local governments during this time.

Fort Lauderdale

  • All special magistrate, code enforcement board, board of adjustment, and nuisance abatement hearings are canceled until 4/12.

Hillsborough County

Jacksonville

Jupiter

  • All board and committee meetings canceled through 4/19.

Miami-Dade County

  • 3/19 – Board of County Commissioners zoning hearing canceled.
  • 3/19 – Code Enforcement Appeal Hearings canceled.
  • 3/24 – Community Zoning Appeals Board #11 hearing canceled.
  • 3/26 & 4/8 – Unsafe Structures Appeal Panel is canceled.
  • 4/16 – Environmental Quality Control board hearing canceled.

City of Miami

  • All public meetings canceled until 4/1.

Orange County

  • Effective 3/16, all advisory board and committee meetings in Orange County have been canceled for 30 days. This includes the Development Review Committee, code enforcement hearings, and Planning and Zoning hearings.
  • NOTE: The 3/24 and 4/7 County Commission meetings are presently scheduled.

St. Petersburg

  • City Council meetings canceled until 4/9.
  • All other public meetings canceled until further notice.

Tallahassee

  • 3/25 – City Commission meeting canceled.
  • 3/26 – CRA meeting canceled.

Tampa

  • Effective 3/16, all city council meetings canceled for 30 days.

Walton County

  • Volunteer Board meetings canceled through both March and April.
