This comprehensive directive outlines policy goals to promote competition in the AI industry, prevent AI-enabled threats to civil liberties and national security, and ensure U.S. global competitiveness in AI. It mandates federal agencies to appoint chief AI officers (CAIOs) and develop and implement guidelines for AI use to help ensure AI systems are safe, trustworthy and aligned with public values, including in healthcare settings.
