With a constantly evolving legal landscape, colleges, universities and independent schools encounter a vast spectrum of new topics on any given day. Pepper Hamilton's Higher Education Practice Group has created its "In Brief" webinar series to provide in-house counsel and school administrators with information that will help them identify and navigate issues relevant to these emerging matters. Drawing on our broad experience in the education sector and beyond, we will address a different timely and relevant topic in each session, allowing time for questions from participants.

Our first "In Brief" session is entitled "Title IX in Limbo: Practical Steps for Summer 2019." Against the backdrop of the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights’ September 2017 Q&A on Sexual Misconduct; the Department’s November 2018 proposed amendments to the regulations implementing Title IX; and more than 113,000 public comments on the topic, we will explore the practical steps colleges and universities can take to ensure they are providing a fundamentally fair process to students accused of sexual misconduct. We will also provide guidance on how colleges and universities can better position themselves to respond when the final regulations are announced, while avoiding the pitfalls of prematurely overhauling their current policies in reaction to the draft regulations.

This webinar features higher education practice co-chairs Michael Baughman and Amy Foerster. These are the powerpoint slides from this webinar.
