The Illinois River Watershed Partnership (“IRWP”) issued its 2025 Annual Report (“Report”).
IRWP describes itself as a:
… non-profit that works to improve the integrity of the Illinois River Watershed through public education, outreach, and implementation of conservation and restoration practices throughout the watershed.
Topics addressed by the Report include:
- 5,000 students with hands-on education about the river and the many ways water sustains communities were reached.
- Expanded work supporting detention and retention ponds to improve water quality.
- Completion of 31 green infrastructure practices across the watershed.
- Recognizes the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission convening a regional consortium that secured $36.25 million to restore and protect a “Green Network” along streams.
- Collaborative effort with the Cherokee Nation and others to secure a $773,000 planning grant for Oklahoma and Arkansas that will lay the foundation for restoring riparian, wetland, karst, and bottomland hardwood habitats, along with the culturally significant species they support.
- Hiring a full-time staff member dedicated to Oklahoma.
- Overview of water quality monitoring activities.
- Septic tank remediation program.
- IRWP and NRCS Billboard Campaign.
- Prescribed Burn Workshop.
- New Geospatial Information System.
- 2,073 Total Volunteer Hours.
- Hosting 10 volunteer events at the IRWP Sanctuary.
