Maryland promulgates rules on virtual currency kiosks

On January 13, the Maryland Office of Financial Regulation (OFR) promulgated new regulations governing virtual currency kiosks, following the enactment of SB 305 (covered by InfoBytes here), which requires all virtual currency kiosk operators and each individual kiosk to register with Maryland’s commissioner of financial regulation by January 1, 2026. The OFR’s regulations established definitions and detailed registration procedures, fee refund processes, fraud prevention requirements, communications and notice protocols, signage standards, screen disclosures, receipt information mandates, and annual reporting obligations.
