The EPA has been asked by the Center for Biological Diversity, the Loon Lake Loon Association, and Project Gutpile to initiate regulation of lead-containing fishing tackle to swans, loons, turtles and other wildlife. According to the environmental groups, about 4,000 tons of lead fishing sinkers are sold in the United States each year. Based on this, the groups estimated that about one ton of lead was lost in U.S. waters for every 6,000 anglers that fish.
