I prepared this Missouri appellate practice update as part of a CLE program sponsored by the Solo and Small Firm Section of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. I am presenting my part of the program along with Norah Ryan. This article expands on some earlier versions that I prepared this past summer. The revised article covers thorny questions about framing points for mixed questions of fact and law, a relatively recent rule change on post-trial motions in bench-tried cases, new case law clarifying the definition of a judgment, and a few wrinkles I've run across in electronic filing.
