Just when you think you understand the overarching public policy concerns regarding the accessibility of weapons to citizens, along comes the decision of Peruta v. County of San Diego. Given the recent and continuing publicity involving catastrophic events such as shootings at businesses, schools and even theatres, there appears to be an outpouring of support to restrict citizens access to firearms despite the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms. In Peruta, the court issued a strong message: people applying for a concealed weapons permit no longer are required  to demonstrate “good cause.” This ruling will open the floodgates for more citizens to apply for a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Some counties and cities have restricted the sale of firearms and ammunition by enacting local ordinances, much to the chagrin of gun advocates and Second Amendment proponents.
