National Grid, Rhode Island’s largest electric company, has requested the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission’s (RIPUC) review and approval of a draft solicitation for long-term contracts for up to 400 MW of renewable energy supply and renewable energy certificates (RECs). The solicitation is the result of Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimundo’s goal to increase the state’s clean energy portfolio ten-fold by 2020. Developed in conjunction with the state’s Office of Energy Resources (OER), the draft RFP proposes issuance of the final RFP in August 2018 and an October 2018 deadline for bid submissions, with winning bidders selected in March 2019.

RIPUC now will review the draft RFP and submitted comments in Docket No. 4822. The review proceeding provides interested parties with an important and time-sensitive opportunity to provide input on the RFP and to help shape the contents of the final version.
