New Candidates Enter Michigan and Texas AG Races Ahead of 2026

  • Michigan – Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd has announced his candidacy for Michigan AG in 2026. Lloyd, a Republican, joins a growing list of candidates for the seat, including Karen McDonald, Kevin Kijewski, and Mark Totten. The current Democratic AG Dana Nessel is term-limited.
  • Texas – Joe Jaworski, an attorney and former Galveston mayor, announced that he will run again for Texas AG, three years after losing the Democratic primary to Rochelle Garza. Jaworski is the second Democrat in the race, joining three-term state Senator Nathan Johnson. Republican state Senators Joan Huffman and Mayes Middleton have also entered the race, as has former U.S. DOJ attorney Aaron Reitz. Texas AG Ken Paxton is running in the 2026 GOP U.S. Senate primary against Senator John Cornyn.
