City Council Releases Preliminary Budget Response

City Council has released their FY24 preliminary budget response. The response outlines $1.3B in investments in housing, workforce development, essential services, and health and safety, and calls for $1.4B to add to reserves to address potential risks in the state budget. Council also called for the administration to address current vacancies in city government.

Adams Announces PEG Elimination

The Adams administration has ordered city agencies to cut their budgets by an additional 4%, in addition to the directives from last year. Budget Director Jacques Jiha notified agency heads that the Mayor’s FY24 executive budget proposal will include these new cuts, known as a Program to Eliminate the Gap (PEG). Jiha cited labor needs, state budget cuts, and the migrant crisis as the cause for these cuts.

Contract Agreement with PBA

Mayor Adams and NYC Office of Labor Relations Commissioner Renee Campion announced that a tentative contract agreement has been reached with the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (PBA). The eight-year agreement is retroactive to 2017 and runs through 2025, and includes wage increases from 2.25% to 4% over the contract period. The terms also include a pilot program allowing extended tours of 10- and 12-hour shifts for increased flexibility.
