Order Express, Inc. Reports Data Breach Affecting the Information of Over 63k Consumers

On December 15, 2022, Order Express, Inc. reported a data breach with several state attorney general offices after the company learned of a data security incident resulting in the sensitive information of more than 63,000 consumers being leaked. According to Order Express, the breach resulted in consumers’ names and Social Security numbers being compromised. Recently, Order Express sent out data breach letters to all affected parties, informing them of the incident and what they can do to protect themselves from identity theft and other frauds.

The available information regarding the Order Express breach comes from the company’s filing with the various state attorney general offices, including Massachusetts, Maine and Montana. According to these sources, on September 7, 2022, Order Express detected unusual activity within its computer network. Upon discovery of what the company thought could be a potential cyberattack, Order Express launched an investigation into the incident with the assistance of third-party data security specialists.

The company’s investigation confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access its computer network between July 29, 2022 and September 7, 2022. Further, the investigation also revealed that some of the files that were accessible to the unauthorized party contained sensitive information belonging to certain individuals.

Upon discovering that confidential consumer data was made available to an unauthorized party, Order Express began to review the affected files to determine what information was compromised and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your first and last name and Social Security number.

On December 15, 2022, Order Express sent out data breach letters to all individuals whose information was compromised as a result of the recent data security incident. According to the Maine Attorney General’s office, the Order Express data breach impacted 63,220 people across the country.
