Arevon Energy has closed a $920-million financing package for its 300 MW/1,200 MWh Nighthawk energy storage project in Poway, California. The project is currently under construction.

California court strikes down NEM 3.0 reform appeal

The California Court of Appeals on March 9 upheld the state’s current net metering program, Net Energy Metering 3.0 (NEM 3.0), which shifted to an hourly time-of-use rate for compensating residential solar customers based on when exported energy was needed most on the grid. Several solar industry and environmental groups filed a lawsuit against the California Public Utilities Commission regarding NEM 3.0 in 2023, and the California Supreme Court ruled last year that the appellate court must revisit and reassess the program.


Nearly 60 GW of U.S. clean power stalled, trade group finds

U.S. clean energy projects representing 59 GW are facing delays at a time when demand for power from AI data centers is surging, according to a new quarterly report from the American Clean Power Association, a trade group. Developers are seeing an average delay of 19 months due to long interconnection times, supply constraints, regulatory barriers, and other barriers.


Federal court rejects request for Empire stay

A U.S. district court judge has denied the federal government’s request to delay judgement in its case against Equinor’s 810 MW Empire Wind, pending a Bureau of Ocean Energy Management decision affecting the project. The court ruled: “The government's concern about potential future actions is too speculative, at this stage, for considerations of judicial economy to weigh in its favor.”

A new solar power field is rising across Lear Avenue from an existing field in the unincorporated community of Desert Heights, California. The Lear Solar Project includes 62 acres of solar development on an 80-acre site and will generate 9.9 MW of power.


RWE brings online four BESS projects in 13 GW U.S. clean energy portfolio

RWE added 2 GW to its U.S. operating capacity in 2025, bringing its total operational capacity to nearly 13 GW across the country. The company has launched 15 new projects across seven states, including California and New York.


Creekstone secures Utah’s largest 1 GW solar lease

Creekstone Energy has leased about 13,000 acres of state trust land in Millard County with the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration, marking the largest solar lease in the state’s history. Creekstone plans to install more than 1 GW of solar capacity at the site over the next 18 months to support a hyperscale AI data center campus.
