Southeast Colorado Hospital District Reports Data Breach Impacting Patients’ SSNs and PHI

On February 3, 2023, Southeast Colorado Hospital District (“SECHD”) filed notice of a data breach with the Attorney General of Montana after learning that an employee’s email account containing confidential patient information became compromised. Based on the company’s official filing, the incident resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to consumers’ names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, dates of birth, medical treatment or diagnosis information, and health insurance information. After confirming that consumer data was leaked, SECHD began sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals who were impacted by the recent data security incident.
