This is an active lawsuit, and none of the allegations against the defendant(s) have been proven. The contents of this page reflect the allegations in the lawsuits.

Hundreds of patients have filed lawsuits against Horizon Therapeutics involving the company’s thyroid eye disease (or Graves’ disease) medication Tepezza. These lawsuits allege that Horizon Therapeutics failed to adequately warn patients and healthcare providers of the risk of hearing loss and severe hearing impairments on Tepezza’s label. Tepezza lawsuits have been consolidated into multidistrict litigation (MDL) in federal (the Tepezza hearing loss MDL); and, if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with hearing loss or severe hearing impairment after receiving Tepezza infusions, you may be eligible to join the MDL to seek financial compensation for your losses.

The Tepezza lawsuits filed in the MDL are seeking to hold Horizon Therapeutics responsible for patients’ medical expenses, hearing aids, pain and suffering, and other losses on the basis that the company failed to meet its obligations under state and federal law. The first bellwether trial in the Tepezza hearing loss MDL is scheduled for next August, and it is possible (though not guaranteed) that the parties will enter into settlement negotiations before then. Right now, the legal process remains ongoing, and patients and their law firms are in the process of gathering information about what Horizon Therapeutics knew about the risks associated with its thyroid eye disease treatment through the discovery process.

“Tepezza has been linked to permanent hearing loss and other permanent hearing impairments in studies and in lawsuits filed against the thyroid eye disease treatment’s manufacturer, Horizon Therapeutics. Tepezza lawyers are continuing to accept cases; and, if you or a loved one has been diagnosed with hearing loss or tinnitus after receiving Tepezza infusions, it will be worth talking to a lawyer about taking legal action.” – Dr. Nick Oberheiden, Founding Attorney of Oberheiden P.C.

It is important to emphasize that the Tepezza multidistrict litigation is ongoing, and the allegations against Horizon Therapeutics have not yet been proven. As such, there is not yet a Tepezza settlement, and there are no average Tepezza lawsuit settlement amounts to report. This article provides an introduction to what patients who have experienced hearing loss and other hearing problems after receiving Tepezza infusions for thyroid eye disease (TED) need to know about their legal rights.

Tepezza Hearing Loss Lawsuits: What Patients and Families Need to Know

Have you or a loved one suffered hearing loss or other hearing-related complications after receiving Tepezza treatments for thyroid eye disease (TED)? If so, here is some important information about the ongoing Tepezza hearing loss litigation:

Why Is Horizon Therapeutics Facing Lawsuits from Patients Who Have Taken Tepezza?

Horizon Therapeutics is facing lawsuits alleging that patients experienced hearing loss after taking the company’s popular thyroid eye disease (Grave’s disease) medication Tepezza. According to allegations in the Tepezza hearing loss cases filed to date, the company failed to provide adequate warnings about the risk of serious hearing loss and other hearing complications (including potentially permanent hearing loss) linked to Tepezza despite sufficient evidence to raise concerns in clinical trials. These lawsuits came after studies linked Tepezza infusions to sensorineural hearing loss, tinnitus, and other conditions.

Who May Be Eligible to File a Tepezza Lawsuit?

Anyone who has been diagnosed with hearing loss or another permanent hearing impairment after receiving Tepezza infusions for double vision or other symptoms of thyroid eye disease (TED) may be eligible to file a Tepezza lawsuit. With that said, strict time limits and other eligibility criteria apply, so it is important to consult with a Tepezza lawyer promptly if you have questions about taking legal action.

How Many People Have Filed a Lawsuit for Hearing Loss or Other Hearing Damage?

According to the latest MDL Statistics Report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML), there were 270 lawsuits pending in the Tepezza hearing loss MDL as of September 2, 2025. The number of Tepezza lawsuits has been increasing steadily in recent months, and patients are still filing Tepezza lawsuits to seek compensation for the costs of their diagnoses. Law firms handling these cases generally provide free consultations; and, if you think you may be eligible to file (or don’t know and want to find out), you should consult with a Tepezza hearing loss lawyer promptly.

What is the Current Status of the Tepezza Litigation Involving Hearing Loss and Hearing Damage Claims?

The Tepezza multidistrict litigation involving hearing loss and hearing impairment claims is currently in the middle of the discovery process. The court has been scheduling in-person status hearings, and the parties are continuing to move forward toward the first bellwether trial. As discussed above, however, settlement is also a possibility; and, if Horizon Therapeutics agrees to settle, plaintiffs who have filed Tepezza lawsuits will be able to decide whether they want to participate.

Is There a Tepezza Class Action Lawsuit?

Currently, there is not a Tepezza class action lawsuit. Instead, patients and families who are dealing with hearing loss and other hearing impairments after taking Tepezza to treat thyroid eye disease (Grave’s eye disease) are pursuing individual lawsuits in the Tepezza hearing loss MDL. If you are dealing with the financial and non-financial consequences of permanent hearing damage linked to Tepezza infusions, joining the Tepezza hearing loss MDL will provide an opportunity to seek full compensation for your medical expenses, hearing aids, pain and suffering, and other losses.

Is the FDA Approval for Tepezza Still Valid?

The FDA approved Tepezza to treat thyroid eye disease (Grave’s eye disease) in 2020, and the FDA’s approval is still valid today. While the FDA updated Tepezza’s label in 2023 to include warnings about hearing loss and other hearing impairments caused by damaged hair cells in the inner ear, Tepezza’s FDA approval has not been withdrawn.

However, this does not prevent patients who received Tepezza infusions and subsequently suffered hearing loss from engaging a legal team to help them take action. If Horizon Therapeutics failed to adequately warn of the risk of permanent hearing loss and other hearing impairments linked to Tepezza, it can be held accountable even if Tepezza remains FDA approved.

What Records Do I Need to Prove Permanent Hearing Loss or Other Hearing Problems?

Proving permanent hearing loss or another hearing problem (including unusually loud hearing) linked to Tepezza treatments requires medical records documenting your diagnosis. Filing a Tepezza lawsuit will require various other forms of documentation as well. When you contact a national law firm to schedule a free consultation with a Tepezza lawyer, your lawyer will be able to walk you through the documentation needed to prove that you are eligible to file and to navigate the legal process successfully.

What Are the Anticipated Tepezza Lawsuit Settlement Amounts?

As stated above, there is not yet a Tepezza settlement. Additionally, with the Tepezza litigation still deep in the discovery process, settlement negotiations have not yet begun in earnest.

With that said, we can provide a general estimate of potential settlement amounts in Tepezza hearing loss cases involving allegations that Horizon Therapeutics failed to adequately warn patients of the risk of suffering hearing loss or other hearing damage after taking Tepezza. Current estimates put average Tepezza settlement amounts somewhere in the range of $100,000 to $500,000—though individual settlements could be significantly less or significantly more.

Again, to be clear, a settlement is not guaranteed. Even if plaintiffs in the Tepezza litigation have the evidence they need to prove that Horizon Therapeutics failed to adequately warn patients of the risks of taking Tepezza for thyroid eye disease (TED), there is no guarantee that the company will settle.

Do I Need to Engage a Law Firm to File a Tepezza Hearing Loss Lawsuit?

While not legally required, practically speaking, patients who developed permanent hearing loss, tinnitus, or other serious hearing problems after taking Tepezza will need to engage a law firm to help them take legal action. The legal process is complicated, and proving that Horizon Therapeutics deserves to be held accountable will be challenging. As discussed above, Tepezza lawsuits claim that the company failed to adequately warn of the risks associated with Tepezza. Proving “failure to warn” claims requires in-depth knowledge of the law and the relevant legal procedures, as well as the ability to overcome Horizon Therapeutics’ defenses.

How Much Does It Cost to File a Tepezza Hearing Loss Claim?

Engaging a law firm to file a Tepezza lawsuit should not cost you anything out of pocket. Whether you are dealing with permanent hearing loss, worsening sensorineural hearing loss, or tinnitus, you can hire a Tepezza lawyer to handle your case on a contingency-fee basis. This means you only pay if you win.

How Do I Find Out if I Have a Tepezza Lawsuit for Permanent Hearing Loss or Hearing Damage?

If you have suffered permanent hearing loss or other hearing damage after taking Tepezza for thyroid eye disease (Grave’s disease), you should talk to a lawyer to find out if you may be eligible to file a Tepezza lawsuit. You should be able to schedule a free consultation promptly.

What Can I Expect if I File a Lawsuit for Significant Hearing Loss Linked to Tepezza?

If you engage a law firm to help you file a lawsuit in the Tepezza multidistrict litigation, you can expect your law firm to work diligently to recover the financial compensation you deserve. However, it is also important to understand that there are no guarantees. While your legal team can argue for a favorable settlement or a just verdict, it cannot force Horizon Therapeutics to settle or force the court to rule in your favor. But, with an experienced legal team on your side, you can feel confident that you are doing the right thing for yourself and your family—and helping give yourself the best chance of holding Horizon Therapeutics duly accountable.
