Today, nearly twenty-five years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe play an increasingly important role in the world’s economy. As the volume of global trade grows, and as the demand for the natural resources and skilled labour found in many of these nations increases, the geostrategic and economic influence of these countries should continue to rise. At the same time, the use of international arbitration as a mechanism for resolving disputes involving parties from, or doing business in, Central and Eastern Europe is also likely to increase.
