Personalized medicine generally refers to “the tailoring of medical treatment to the individual characteristics, needs, and preferences of a patient during all stages of care, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.” A key driver of personalized medicine is the identification and leveraging of novel biological indicators of disease or disease risk that will lead to the development of new diagnostics (and therapeutics).
