Below is the Federal Policy team’s weekly preview, published each Monday that Congress is in session.

HEADLINES

• President Trump at 9 p.m. Monday is scheduled to announce his nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

• Tuesday, Trump leaves for Europe for high-profile meetings with NATO leaders, followed by a visit to the United Kingdom.

• The House and Senate return from July 4 recess.

HOUSE

• The House plans to vote Tuesday through Friday. The legislative agenda includes the Intelligence Authorization Act and several regulatory reform bills; leaders also plan to take up a narrow immigration bill focused on family separations at the U.S.-Mexico border.
• The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee on Wednesday will review legislation to improve the 340B drug pricing program.
• The Judiciary Committee and Oversight Committee on Thursday will hold a hearing on FBI and Justice Department actions surrounding the 2016 election; the committees subpoenaed FBI agent Peter Strzok to testify.

SENATE

• The Senate plans to be in session throughout the week, and will continue working through Trump judicial and agency nominees.
• The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee will consider the nomination of Robert Wilkie to be VA secretary.
• The Energy and Natural Resources Committee on Thursday will examine interstate delivery networks for natural gas and electricity.

WHITE HOUSE

• Trump is scheduled tonight at 9 p.m. ET to announce his nomination to the Supreme Court, replacing retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Federal judges Thomas Hardiman, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh and Raymond Kethledge were finalists, with reports late Sunday that Hardiman and Barrett emerged as frontrunners – but that Trump may not decide until the final hours before the announcement.
• Tuesday, Trump departs for meetings with NATO leaders in Brussels amid tensions with Europe and Canada over trade and security issues.
• Thursday and Friday Trump will be in the United Kingdom, including visiting Prime Minister Theresa May and later Queen Elizabeth II. He will then spend the weekend at his resort in Scotland.
