Below is the Federal Policy team’s weekly preview, published when Congress is in session.

HEADLINES

• The House plans to vote on a contempt resolution against Attorney General William Barr and former White House Counsel Don McGahn for failing to reply to subpoenas.

• President Donald Trump will visit a renewable energy plant in Iowa and will host the president of Poland in Washington.

• Washington is regrouping after another wild week, as an apparent deal with Mexico over stemming migration flows eased tensions that Trump had ratcheted up with the threat of tariffs, which had been scheduled to take effect today.

HOUSE

  • The House is in session today through Thursday. In addition to the resolution against Barr and McGahn, lawmakers will vote on a $1 trillion appropriations package that funds agencies from the Labor Department to the Pentagon.
  • The House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on state regulation of the student loan servicing market.
  • The Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing assessing the state of U.S. agricultural products in foreign markets.

SENATE

  • The Senate will confirm several judges and other Trump nominees.
  • The Senate Commerce Committee will hold an oversight hearing regarding the Federal Communications, Chairman Ajit Pai and four other commissioners.
  • The Judiciary Committee will hold a third hearing on patents, following two last week.

WHITE HOUSE

  • Trump today will join a meeting regarding Major League Baseball’s efforts to combat human trafficking, and will meet with the Indianapolis 500 championship team.
  • Tomorrow, he will visit a renewable energy facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
  • Wednesday, Trump will host Polish President Andrzej Duda at the White House.
