The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has released some interesting statistics on international patent and trademark filings in 2013.  The United States, Japan and China lead in the number of international patent application filings, which saw a 5.1% increase in 2013.

Germany, the United States and France lead in terms of international trademark application filings, which saw a 6.4% increase.

Perhaps the most interesting statistic is the rise in Hague design applications was 14.8%, which has mirrored the renewed interest in U.S. design patent applications following the highly publicized litigation between tech giants Apple and Samsung.
