Two New Judges Join the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit

The U.S. Senate recently confirmed the nominations of Arianna J. Freeman and Tamika Montgomery-Reeves to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. The confirmations bring the Third Circuit closer to full capacity, with 14 of 15 seats filled.

Arianna J. Freeman earned a bachelor’s degree from Swarthmore College and a juris doctor from Yale University. After law school, Judge Freeman clerked for two judges on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. From 2009 through 2022, she worked for the Federal Community Defender Office. The U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination by a 50-47 vote and she received her judicial commission on October 20, 2022.

Tamika Montgomery-Reeves earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and a juris doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. After two years as a law clerk for Delaware Court of Chancery, Judge Designate Montgomery-Reeves joined the law firm of Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP in New York in 2007. From 2011 through 2015, she was a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Delaware. In 2015, Judge Designate Montgomery-Reeves became a Vice Chancellor on the Delaware Court of Chancery. Since 2019, she has served as a justice on the Delaware Supreme Court. On December 12, 2022, the U.S. Senate confirmed her nomination by a 53-35 vote. She will become a U.S. circuit judge upon receiving her judicial commission in February 2023.
