On July 8, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Switzerland’s Federal Office of Civil Aviation announced the adoption of an agreement for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or drones.

The agreement is designed to bring agreement among domestic and international safety standards for UAS aircraft. The agreement details a Declaration of Intent (DOI) which will allow collaboration among the U.S. and Swiss organizations for research and development and coordination of personnel, initiatives and projects involving UAS aircraft.

According to the FAA, UAS aircraft are the fastest growing and broadest segment of the aviation industry.

The Innovation and Digitization Unit of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation in Switzerland and the FAA’s UAS Integration Office will serve as the primary authorities and contacts under the agreement.
