The Bureau of Consular Affairs of the U.S. Department of State (DOS) is experiencing technical outages that prevent the issuance of passports and visas at every consulate and embassy around the world.
On June 12, 2015, the Bureau of Consular Affairs indicated that there is a technical problem with the Consular Consolidated Database that inhibits consular posts and embassies from printing visas or issuing U.S. passports. This does not impact issuance of U.S. passports within the U.S. The agency is working urgently to resolve the issue and restore full service as soon as possible.
Travelers needing visas and passports may be required to make alternate arrangements. Some consulates are proactively cancelling upcoming visa appointments while others are moving forward with scheduled interviews and notifying applicants of delays in visa issuance.
Updates from DOS will be posted at the Bureau’s Newsroom webpage and via its Twitter account.
