On March 19, 2020, Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-33-20, directing all Californians to stay home, except as necessary to “to maintain continuity of operations of the federal critical infrastructure sectors.” Following up on that order over the weekend, the State identified a preliminary list of designated Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers whose activities are covered within the Order’s stay-home exceptions. That list includes hospital and health care workers; workers necessary for the manufacturing of materials and products needed for certain critical infrastructure sectors; construction workers; those supporting food, feed, and beverage distribution; farm workers and support service workers; and workers who support the operation, inspection, and maintenance of essential public works facilities and operations, including construction of critical or strategic infrastructure, and construction material suppliers, among others.

The full list is available here, and will continue to be updated periodically, with changes identified in blue text. Additional FAQs regarding the Order (also updated) are available on the State’s information page.

For additional information about the March 19 Order and its relationship to critical infrastructure and worker classifications, please see our previous announcement on March 20, 2020, which is available here.
