According to news reports, the watchdog group Public Citizen will reprise its “bird-dogging” campaign to shed light on whether events held during the 2016 presidential nominating conventions violate applicable laws. As it has done at prior conventions, Public Citizen will attend these events in search of such violations.

Indeed, depending on the circumstances, convention-related activities can raise issues under applicable federal, state and local laws regarding campaign finance, pay-to-play, and gifts and entertainment. It is important that you consult counsel before engaging in convention activity, such as sponsoring parties, hosting events, or contributing to convention and/or host committees.
