Last month, Chinese tax authorities issued a groundbreaking tax notice (Bulletin 11). As a result, foreign universities operating in China will be subject to a new tax regime effective 1 April 2018, including more than 1,000 foreign universities operating collaborative programs in China. Even tax exempt institutions in the U.S. or in Europe are not exempt from these taxes and may be hit with new tax obligations under Bulletin 11.

Chinese tax authorities are increasingly focused on activities that foreign colleges and universities conduct in China. Recent public statements suggest that Chinese regulators have deemed it a priority to tax non-Chinese academic institutions operating programs in China.

In this upcoming webinar, our China-based higher education team will review the effects of Bulletin 11 and answer your questions, including:

What kinds of programs in China will be subject to the new tax regime?
What taxes apply to university faculty and staff traveling to China?
Are there strategies to mitigate the new tax obligations?

We will run this webinar twice – on Tuesday 27 March for our audience in the U.S. and again in April for our audience in Europe. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions before and during the session.
