Join Scott Lewis, Jeff Solomon, and Brian Van Brunt as they share best practices for violence risk assessment (VRA) within the new Title IX regulations. Our expert panel will draw from their expertise in Title IX, law enforcement, psychology, and violence risk assessment to help those tasked with this work to better understand the process. As Title IX staff continue to be stretched thin against the massive expectation to understand the new regulations and put them into practice, there is a pressing need to understand the VRA process. This program will describe key factors required to complete a VRA in an easy to use, consistently applied process that reduces bias, mitigates legal exposure, and provides clear direction for next steps in an evidenced-based way. Those who attend the training will receive instructions on how to vet those conducting a VRA, how the VRA differs from a psychological assessment, how to work collaboratively with your counseling and BIT, CARE, and/or threat assessment teams and apply these skills in your daily practice. Participants will receive a detailed training guide, several case examples involving social media and text-based threats, and a practical flowchart overview of a VRA process.
