This is an active lawsuit, and none of the allegations against the defendant(s) have been proven. The contents of this page reflect the allegations in the lawsuits.

Thousands of patients have filed lawsuits involving allegations of severe health complications linked to popular weight loss drugs. This includes patients who have been prescribed the weight loss drug Wegovy. If you have been prescribed Wegovy and subsequently been diagnosed with severe gastrointestinal side effects (including gastroparesis), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), vision loss, or any of the other health risks that have been linked to Wegovy, you may be eligible to file a Wegovy lawsuit and seek financial compensation for your losses.

“Wegovy lawsuits and lawsuits involving other popular weight loss drugs are being consolidated into a single national multidistrict litigation (MDL) proceeding. The national weight loss drug MDL is growing quickly; and, the more it grows, the more pressure the defendants will face to consider a settlement.” – Dr. Nick Oberheiden, Founding Attorney of Oberheiden P.C.

In their Wegovy lawsuits, patients diagnosed with gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), blood clots, acute kidney injuries, vision loss, and other serious health complications allege that Novo Nordisk (which manufactures Ozempic and Wegovy) is liable for their losses because the company failed to provide adequate warnings about the drug’s risks. Other drug manufacturers are facing similar allegations in legal actions involving other popular weight loss drugs.

This article provides an update on the national multidistrict litigation (MDL) involving Wegovy and other weight loss drugs as well as a brief overview of the steps involved in taking legal action.

Latest Updates on the Weight Loss Drug Multidistrict Litigation (MDL)

The national multidistrict litigation (MDL) involving Wegovy and other weight loss drugs was formed in February 2024 as legal claims involving these drugs began to proliferate. It is officially known as, MDL 3094 In Re: Glucagon-like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1 RAS) Products Liability Litigation (“MDL 3094”). While MDL 3094 initially involved claims related to gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), it has since expanded to include a variety of severe health complications reportedly suffered by patients prescribed Wegovy and other GLP-1 weight loss drugs.

Patients Continue to File Wegovy Lawsuits

As of September 2025, MDL 3094 is continuing to grow rapidly. More patients are filing Wegovy lawsuits and lawsuits involving other popular weight loss drugs every month. According to the latest status report from the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML), there were 2,676 legal actions pending in MDL 3094 on September 2, 2025. Nearly 500 new plaintiffs filed legal claims in August after nearly 200 new plaintiffs filed legal claims in July.

The national weight loss drug multidistrict litigation (MDL) centers on legal arguments that Wegovy’s manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, and other pharmaceutical companies failed to properly warn patients and healthcare providers about the potential risks of serious complications linked to their respective drugs. Patients’ lawsuits allege that these pharmaceutical companies deserve to be held accountable for touting the potential for significant weight loss without adequately disclosing the increased risk of developing stomach paralysis, blood clots, and other serious health complications.

Many Patients Are Still Eligible to File

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Wegovy for chronic weight management treatment and patients seeking to achieve significant weight loss on June 4, 2021 (unlike many other GLP-1 drugs, Wegovy is not currently approved as a prescription medication for diabetes treatment). As a result, many patients who have taken Wegovy are still eligible to file, and those who have only recently stopped taking Wegovy due to serious or potentially life-threatening complications almost certainly still have time to file a Wegovy lawsuit in federal court.

Lawsuits Focus on Gastrointestinal Complications, Deep Vein Thrombosis, and NAION Linked to Wegovy

While the national weight loss drug multidistrict litigation (MDL) initially focused primarily on claims related to gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), it has since expanded to include a variety of health complications allegedly linked to Wegovy and other popular GLP-1 drugs. These include additional gastrointestinal issues, blot clots linked to deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and vision loss linked to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), among others.

As discussed below, to file a Wegovy lawsuit, patients must have medical records confirming their diagnosis with a condition that falls within the scope of the multidistrict litigation. Wegovy lawyers who are familiar with the ongoing litigation will be able to advise patients regarding whether their medical records support filing a lawsuit against Novo Nordisk.

Potential Settlement Amounts in the Wegovy Litigation

The Wegovy lawsuits filed to date remain ongoing; and, as a result, there is not yet a Wegovy settlement in MDL 3094. Plaintiffs’ Wegovy attorneys are continuing to pursue their clients’ legal arguments and seek compensation on their behalf.

If Novo Nordisk agrees to a settlement in MDL 3094, it will almost certainly provide compensation for eligible plaintiffs’ financial and non-financial losses. This includes:

  • Medical Expenses – Plaintiffs in Wegovy lawsuits are seeking compensation for all of their medical expenses resulting from their Wegovy-related diagnoses. Plaintiffs have incurred (and are continuing to incur) substantial medical bills in many cases.
  • Lost Wages – Plaintiffs in Wegovy lawsuits are seeking compensation for their lost wages as well. Here too, this includes their losses to date and losses they are expected to incur in the future.
  • Pain, Suffering, and Emotional Distress – Plaintiffs who have Wegovy lawsuits involving stomach paralysis, vision loss, and other serious health complications are also entitled to seek compensation for their present and future pain, suffering, and emotional distress.
  • Other Financial and Non-Financial Losses – Along with the losses listed above, patients who have grounds to file Wegovy lawsuits may be entitled to seek compensation for various other financial and non-financial losses as well.

To be clear, a Wegovy settlement is not guaranteed, and every plaintiff’s case is unique. Patients who have Wegovy-related lawsuits can seek just compensation for their specific losses, and calculating these losses involves working closely with an experienced Wegovy lawsuit attorney who has extensive experience representing clients in products liability and personal injury claims.

Steps Involved in Filing Lawsuits Related to Alleged Complications from Wegovy

If you are eligible to file a Wegovy lawsuit, how do you take legal action? Here is a brief overview of the major steps in the process of filing a lawsuit against Novo Nordisk:

1. Collect Your Medical Records

Medical records are essential evidence in lawsuits against drug manufacturers involving serious complications related to undisclosed (and, in some cases, disclosed) potential risks. With this in mind, patients who are interested in filing a Wegovy lawsuit should try to track down their medical records related to their Wegovy prescription.

Additionally, patients should collect medical records confirming their diagnosis with a possible Wegovy-related complication, if possible. Again, Wegovy has been linked to potential risks for serious complications such as:

  • Gastrointestinal issues (including gastroparesis (stomach paralysis) and other gastrointestinal disorders resulting in severe abdominal pain and other severe stomach issues)
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and blood clots
  • Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) and vision loss
  • Other serious health conditions requiring medical intervention

Importantly, specific types of diagnostic testing are required in some cases. Once you hire a Wegovy lawsuit lawyer to represent you, your lawyer will be able to assist you with collecting the records you need.

2. Talk to a Wegovy Lawsuit Lawyer

After collecting your medical records, the next step is to schedule a free and confidential consultation with a Wegovy lawyer. An experienced lawyer will be able to examine your records to determine if you have grounds to file a Wegovy lawsuit based on the specific health complication with which you have been diagnosed. While MDL 3094 involves several Wegovy-related health complications, not all health complications qualify.

3. Calculate the Financial Compensation You Are Entitled to Recover

If you have grounds to file a Wegovy lawsuit, then the next step in the process will be to calculate the financial compensation you are entitled to recover. This, too, requires working with an experienced Wegovy lawyer—as you need to be able to accurately determine both your long-term medical costs and the “value” of your physical pain and emotional trauma. Once you know how much you are entitled to recover, then you can make an informed decision about whether to take legal action.

4. Continue Documenting Your Losses

If you decide to take legal action, your lawyer will file a Wegovy lawsuit on your behalf. At this stage, your lawyer will handle the legal process for you, but it will be important for you to continue documenting your Wegovy-related losses. Here too, an experienced Wegovy attorney will be able to explain everything you need to know.

5. Rely on Your Legal Team to Navigate the Wegovy Multidistrict Litigation (MDL)

Going forward, you will need to rely on your legal team to navigate the process of seeking just compensation on your behalf. Your role in the process is to prioritize your medical care and continue documenting your losses—and to be available when your lawyer needs to speak with you. In particular, if a Wegovy settlement is on the table, it will be up to you to decide whether you want to participate or keep fighting for more.

Is There a Wegovy Class Action Lawsuit?

As a final point of clarification, there is not currently a Wegovy class action lawsuit involving the medical conditions discussed above. While there are some similarities between MDL proceedings and class action lawsuits, there are also several key differences. Most importantly, patients who file a Wegovy lawsuit in MDL 3094 have the ability to seek full compensation for their financial and non-financial losses, whereas class action lawsuits typically result in much smaller awards for individual plaintiffs.
